At about eleven months away from air attacks French in Mali that have forced the Islamists to scatter throughout the territory of the Sahara, they are now slowly beginning to return. For the new president of Mali, Ibrahim Keita Boubcar their return will lead to a further difficulty to the stabilization of the desert in the north.

I remember the evils of the crisis erupted last year when the Tuareg separatists tried to take control of the north. Their rebellion was soon joined by other rebel groups probably linked to al Qaeda but we are talking about a coalition always changing. The melting pot of Islamist militants , separatist rebels and gangs of smugglers led to a considerable further complication to the pacification of the area.

The experts are beginning to worry that France may get bogged down in a war of indefinite duration if the peacekeeping forces of the United Nations does not take over. Mali is inexorably moving into a phase of guerrilla warfare waged by sleeper cells , combatants who return from the south of Algeria , Libya , Niger as a French diplomat has expressed counterterrorism expert. About two months ago, two Chadian soldiers belonging to the UN troops were killed in a suicide attack in the remote town of Tessalit. Gao is the largest city of northern Mali has been hit by a series of attacks with rocket launchers while the French special forces have taken action against the Islamists in the north of Timbuktu for the first time after months of "calm". But it was the killing of two French journalists kidnapped in broad daylight in the northern town of Kidal which has particularly shocked France.

Al Qaeda has reported that the killings are a response to the operation " Mali " taken by France although analysts say it could be a kidnapping " failed." France has sent reinforcements to Kidal , after the death of the two journalists , but also insists that it will further delay its plan to reduce its troops from 3,200 to 1,000 units by next February , two months later than originally planned. France is increasingly aware that it will take a long time to eradicate the threat of terrorism in the Sahel ( the desert), there is some SERVAL ( the French operation ) and MINUSMA ( the UN mission ) but will require long-term efforts and a deep regional coordination to completely annihilate the threat of terrorism in Mali.

The killing of two journalists highlighted the gaps in coverage foreign military in a country twice the size of France. The operation in Mali to France is expected to cost at least EUR 650,000,000 to which we must add support for African allies while Paris is under pressure to cut defense spending. In Mali is mounting violence war is increasingly tightening , the fighting groups have managed to restore the entire drug trafficking and organized crime and warlords are back in their place.

Nobody expected it to happen so quickly and so openly .
