According to U.S. sources the risk would be extended to diplomatic offices in Italy and Spain. On 4 August Marines are expected to arrive in Rome and Madrid, men to be deployed in protection of embassies and consulates.
On 11 September, the U.S. ambassador Christopher Stevens was killed during an attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya. The attack provoked harsh reactions also on the U.S. domestic front, with the government accused of underestimating the many threats received about possible attacks before the incident of Benghazi. Now the game seems to open on multiple fronts, the U.S. Department maintains high alert and encourages all its citizens to pay attention in countries at risk, especially in proximity to embassies or consulates. The greatest threat, however, seems to come from Yemen, a country in which Americans drones engaged in the dismantling operations of jihadist groups operating in the area for some years, by means of targeted killings of members of AQAP (Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula).
