Interestingly, the formation of a special atmosphere in Iraq and Syria that has begun to have its impact on the whole region. The direct attack on the Christian component in Iraq after the fall of the regime in 2003, he moved quickly today in Syria, but in reality another risk is emerging strongly that create an image of a Middle East free from Christianity. Map of power in Iraq today suggests the division of the country into three parts consisting of Kurds, Shiites and Sunnis, while in Syria there is another atmosphere of planning that is emerging composed of Sunnis, Kurds, Alawites and Druze and strangely It does not include the Christian presence.
There is a real risk that Christianity is considered outside of the promotion and formation of a new Middle East. Especially materializes a new image of Christianity as if that, today, there is a minority that is not part of the identity the Middle East, like a presence outside the EU. On the demographic level this is caused mainly by the continued emigration by young Christians to the West and more to a strong transformation of Arab societies towards a blind conservatism that leads certainly extremism.
Last year, some Arab leaders have thought that one of the pillars on which to build their political image, after the so-called Arab Spring, consisted in playing the card of the Christian presence in the Middle East and maybe offer a plan to protect the very presence. But within a year, this paper looks more like a paper effectively towards a political perspective since the birth of a Sunni caliphate by ISIS has put at risk the legitimacy and the presence of these leaders that led them to seek new roads especially in the primacy of Sunni Islam. This has weakened again the theme of the Christian presence and increased the risk of having a Middle East without Christianity.
In this context, it is hard not to think also to urge Israel to turn Israel into a Jewish state "religious."
This atmosphere of division in the Middle East aims to lead to the disappearance of the Christian presence in the region as the birth of Christianity. Especially now there is a growing threat to Christianity and Christians from ISIS and all other terrorist groups mostly from the so-called conservative Islam "moderate" (Muslim Brotherhood) that actually worked much in the last 50 years to rule the Middle East representing the Christian identity.
Today it is necessary to adopt a strategy based on short and long term dimensions. The primary essence of this strategy is to strengthen the Christian presence in the Middle East and you can do today through the salvation of the concept of the nation state - under serious threat - that guarantees pluralism and puts an end to the superiority proclaimed by a group and It does overcome the demographic reality of the obstacle. This also requires effective collaboration between the various progressive forces to reinforce the idea that Christianity is a cultural identity for the Middle East and not only a religious identity.
This could avoid that Christianity is part of the conflict and sectarian fighting that now prevails in the region.
